Army Corps, Community Clean-up Fort DeRussy Beach and Park for National Public Lands Day

More than 80 volunteers scoured Fort DeRussy park and beach berm Sept. 9, picking up trash and clearing debris as part of this year's National Public Lands Day celebrations, including Junior Reserve Officers Training Course (JROTC) students from Punahou High School and other local schools led by Lt. Col. (ret.) Robert Takao, commander of the JROTC at Punahou High School.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pacific Regional Visitor Center coordinated the event led by USACE Park Ranger Samantha Vazquez.

Corps of Engineers Partners with Punahou JROTC to Clean Up Waikiki Beach as Part of Earth Month 2014

HONOLULU (APRIL 5, 2014) - Approximately 30 volunteers from the Punahou Junior ROTC program (which includes cadets from other area high schools and some homeschooled students) and Corps’ employees and family members joined forces April 5 to clean up the beach and berm area at the Corps’ Pacific Regional Visitor Center at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki. Altogether about 45 volunteers participated in this Earth Month event.
