Lt. Col. Lamar Cantelou became the 75th Honolulu District Commander on July 2, 2026. Before joining the Honolulu District, he most recently served as a Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Cantelou is from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and commissioned into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in May 2008.
He has served in other command and staff positions including: Operations Officer for the 130th Engineer Brigade in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Operations Officer for the 29th Brigade Engineer Battalion also in Schofield Barracks; Chief of Staff for Seattle District U.S .Army Corps of Engineers; Commander for HHC, 2-327th Infantry Battalion in Operation Resolute Support and Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Battalion Engineer, 3d Ranger Battalion in Operation Enduring Freedom and at Fort Benning, Georgia; and Sapper Platoon Leader for Alpha Company, 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Cantelou holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (North Carolina State University), Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (NC State), and a Master’s degree in Operational Studies at the Command and General Staff College. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina.
He is a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College, Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, Engineer Basic Officer Leadership Course, Ranger School, Sapper Leader Course, Jumpmaster School, and Airborne School.
Cantelou’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal (3), Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab, Sapper Tab, Air Assault Badge, and Parachutist Badge.
Cantelou is married and has two children.
