MAJ Dan Segura, originally from Virginia, graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1996 and was commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was assigned to the 9th Engineer Battalion at Schweinfurt, Germany where he served as a combat engineer platoon leader in Bosnia and a company executive officer in Kosovo. After completing the Engineer Captain Career Course and earning his Masters Degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 2001, MAJ Segura was assigned to the 36th Engineer Group at Fort Benning, Georgia where he commanded the 63rd Engineer Combat Support Equipment Company deploying to Iraq in 2003.
Following command, MAJ Segura served in an AC/RC position with the 3/383rd in St Louis, Missouri training Reserve and National Guard Soldiers. Prior to Command and General Staff College, MAJ Segura served as the Combined Forces Command – Afghanistan Engineer Operations Officer in Kabul, Afghanistan. Immediately after the Command and General Staff College, MAJ Segura served as the Multi National Corps – Iraq Senior Operations Officer in Baghdad, Iraq.
Following his second tour in Iraq, MAJ Segura served as the Battalion S-3 then Battalion Executive Officer for the 19th Engineer Battalion at Fort Knox, Kentucky. These assignments included a deployment to southern Afghanistan. He redeployed in May, 2010.
MAJ Segura’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (1OLC), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the Airborne Badge and the Air Assault Badge. He has also been awarded the Bronze Order of the Engineer DeFleury Medal.
MAJ Segura’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the United States Military Academy and a Masters in Science degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri at Rolla. His military schooling includes the Command and General Staff College, the Engineer Captain Career Course, and the Engineer Officer Basic Course.
