Corps of Engineers Regulatory Outreach to American Samoa
In a continuing effort to help the people of American Samoa, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Honolulu District recently held two outreach workshops for the territorial government on how the Corps’ Regulatory Program works and how to best work with Corps Regulators.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Honolulu District has awarded a contract of $2,488,880.00 to Trade West Construction, Inc., Mesquite, NV for the Cyclone Repair of Route 118 Utulei Landslide, Island of Tutuila, American Samoa.

Army Corps, ABMC ADA Chairlift Project at Punchbowl Begins Next Week
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Honolulu District is scheduled to begin construction during the week of May 23 of a recently awarded $945,000 contract to install four chairlifts along the eastern side of the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) Honolulu Memorial within the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. The chairlifts will facilitate American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant access to the entire memorial.

565th Eng. Det. Teams with Baltimore FEST-A at Key Resolve 2011
Honolulu District’s 565th Engineer Detachment Forward Engineer Support Team-Advance (FEST-A) joined forces with Baltimore District’s FEST-A (71st Eng. Det.) at the 2011 Key Resolve exercise in South Korea to develop a preliminary contingency bed down plan for use in potential future U.S. forces missions. Held in conjunction with the annual field exercise Foal Eagle, Key Resolve is a command post exercise that enables the Republic of Korea-U.S. alliance to hone the skills needed to deter aggression against South Korea or to fight and win, if necessary.

Honolulu District Civilian Employee to Receive Prestigious National Award
Kris Young, who serves as the executive administrative assistant to the chief of the Engineering and Construction Division at the District, will receive the Federal Asian Pacific American Council’s Excellence in Individual Achievement award during the 26th FAPAC National Leadership Training Conference held May 9 to 13.

In order to promote President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors initiative, the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii (TNC); community group Kāko’o Ōiwi; the UH Institute of Marine Biology; Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Jo-Ellen Darcy and leaders of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held Hawaii’s first ever America’s Great Outdoors Event at Heeia Wetland adjacent to Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, March 17, 2011.
