WAIKOLOA VILLAGE, Hawaii — Members of the Waikoloa Village community took part in the spring 2024 Waikoloa Maneuver Area Formerly Used Defense Site Restoration Advisory Board meeting May 22 in Waikoloa Village on the Island of Hawaii.
The twice-yearly meeting gives the Honolulu District an opportunity to provide in-person updates to residents about the ongoing environmental investigations and restoration activities at the former Waikoloa Maneuver Area, and to give the community a voice in the process.
Lt. Col. Joseph Kendall, Honolulu District deputy commander, joined WMA FUDS program and project managers for the May 22 RAB meeting, during which he talked with residents, delivered remarks and presented the Department of the Army Civilian Service Achievement Medal to two Corps employees for their years of hard work in support of, and numerous contributions to, the Corps' WMA mission.
Kendall emphasized to participating community members that they are a vital part of environmental restoration activities because they provide valuable input to the Corps.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our Restoration Advisory Board members for volunteering and the community for staying engaged with us throughout this process,” Kendall said. “I cannot say this enough. Your attendance this evening shows you care about your community and your neighbors.”
The May 22 meeting was recorded and will be posted to the Honolulu District’s WMA FUDS webpage at: https://www.poh.usace.army.mil/Missions/Environmental/FUDS/Waikoloa.aspx.
