What is your name?
Michael Woundy

What is your official title?
Senior Construction Control representative and District Dive Coordinator

What section of Honolulu District are you located?
Kwajalein Area Office

What is your job in the District?
I perform Quality Assurance as well as Collateral E-tech work as needed. I also oversee all dive safety for Honolulu District.

What do you find most rewarding about your career?
I am amazed at the amount of opportunities that are available to you for those willing to go after them and put the required work in to achieve success.

How do your duties help support the Honolulu District mission?
I would say my mission helps ensure that we deliver a quality product to our customers.

What led you to being a member of the USACE Dive Team?
Actually, it was by default that I joined the dive team. I have been the Honolulu Districts Designated Dive Coordinator since August of 2017 and last year on behalf of Honolulu District, I requested assistance from the USACE Dive team through the USACE Dive community to perform Under Water Quality assurance checks for the Echo Pier project. By Army, regulation USACE dive teams require five qualified personnel to execute dive missions and as a cost saving measure because of the previous experience I have, I was able to fill the fifth person rounding out the team negating the need to another USACE diver from the mainland to perform the work. The knowledge I have of the local waters, (above the surface and below) relationships with the command and the contractors I have made over the past 13 years on Kwajalein proved to be invaluable to mission success as a member of that team. As a result, this lead to concurrent invitations to be a part of this team while they are in the Honolulu District Area of Responsibility. (AOR)

Why do you love being on the USACE Dive team?
Besides the sense of Camaraderie working with fellow divers, It gives me a chance to improve the skills I already have related to the USACE Dive Program, keep up with what is going on in the USACE Diving Community of Practice, and make me better in my Duties as the District Dive Coordinator.
Being able to do something you, love for work is pretty cool though too!
