Honolulu District Continues Support to Army, Pacific Region in 2014

During 2014 highly motivated U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Honolulu District staff supported military construction at Hawaii Army posts with the District completing 16 projects including three unaccompanied enlisted personnel housing units – one each at Schofield Barracks, Helemano Military Reservation, and Tripler Army Medical Center - and the Warriors in Transition Barracks and Complex at Schofield. Lt. Col. Christopher W. Crary became the 69th commander of the District.

This week in history: Army Engineers fought and lived through the attack on Pearl Harbor

Seven December 1941 was the opening scene of World War II, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was there. At 7:55 a.m., two waves of Japanese warplanes from a naval task force about 250 miles north of Hawaii appeared over Oahu. Some headed for American warships at Pearl Harbor and the planes on the ground at nearby Hickam Field; others hit Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Field, and Bellows Field. The Corps of Engineers in Hawaii consisted of Soldier-engineers in the Army's Hawaiian Department, and the Corps' Honolulu Engineer District, then part of the South Pacific Division.
