FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii. -- Employee Spotlight:
Name: Vicky Cummings
Job Title: Executive Support Professional
How long have you been at Honolulu District or with USACE?
I began government service 15 year ago working first in Japan and Korea for the U.S. Air Force, Army and Department of Defense Schools Pacific. I began my U.S. Army Corps of Engineers career in 2007 with the New Orleans District and then deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq my first year with the Corps. My career path and experience has all been within the Administrative realm; with the expectation of deployments in which I worked under several hats, gained lots of work experience, and realized personal strengths.
What did you do before you arrived at Honolulu District?
In 2009, I was hired by Southwest District Office in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I worked administrative positions for Program and Project Management and Office of Counsel. During this time I was deployed to Afghanistan from November 2011 to April 2013. For the past two years with the Tulsa District, I worked as Lead Secretary to the Chief of the Operations Division.
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
I enjoy watching sports, attending ballet, opera, or Broadway shows, but most of all spending time with family (my granddaughters in particular) and painting.
Fill in the blank: I once met…
Lieutenant General Robert Van Antwerp (Retired) at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan and was invited to sit down to dinner with him along with my husband and fellow staff members.
Major General Michael Eyre (Retired) in Kabul, Afghanistan and he personally presented me with his coin during a Town Hall Meeting held in September 2012.
Why did you choose your career path?
I actually think my career path found me. Years of working in the private sector, within many different types of positions I’ve held, each has prepared and provided me with tools to take on the next new challenge that I am selected to do. I am happy to be able to start another chapter working here at the Honolulu District. This is my first time to be in Hawaii, and I look forward to making happy memories here, and gaining new experience.
