Proposed Plan Public Meeting Waikoloa Maneuver Area FUDS Munitions Response Site: Areas A and G

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Honolulu District is seeking public input on the Proposed Plan for Munitions Response Site (MRS) Areas A West, A East, and G within the former Waikoloa Maneuver Area, South Kohala, Island of Hawaii.

Areas A and G, Formerly Used Defense Site, consists of 6,887.9 acres located along the southern border of Waimea and comprised of three separate noncontiguous areas. This MRS was historically used as a non-live fire maneuver training area during WorldWar II era and as such no evidence has been found that indicates munitions training was conducted within the site.

To ensure maximum community involvement in the restoration decision-making process, USACE will hold an in-person public meeting to present the Proposed Plan for MRS Areas A and G to include the proposed decision of No Further Action for this site. The public is encouraged to attend. The meeting will be recorded and posted to the project website.

Oral and written comments received during the 30-day comment period will be recorded and answered in the Responsiveness Summary of the Record of Decision.

USACE is responsible for the cleanup of properties eligible under the Formerly Used Defense Sites Program under the direction of the Department of the Army and the Department of Defense. Together in consultation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and in partnership with state agencies USACE is making progress at the Waikoloa Maneuver Area and is committed to the environmental restoration of lands due to past Department of Defense activities.
