  • This week in history…

    Seven December 1941 was the opening scene of World War II, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was there. At 7:55 a.m., two waves of Japanese warplanes from a naval task force about 250 miles north of Hawaii appeared over Oahu. Some headed for American warships at Pearl Harbor and the planes on the ground at nearby Hickam Field; others hit Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Field, and Bellows Field.
  • Army Holds Blessing Ceremony for South Range Training Campus

    A ground blessing ceremony was held November 18 for the new Unit Operations Facilities campus at South Range, Schofield Barracks. The campus is part of a $279 million program at Schofield and was authorized in the FY09 Military Construction, Army program.
  • Alterations to Fuel Tanks to Begin

    A traditional untying of the maile lei and ground breaking ceremony was held last week for the FY11 Alter Fuel Storage Tanks project at Area 11, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH). The ceremony was presided over by Reverend David Kaupu.
  • Army Corps Presents Bronze de Fleury Medal to Former FEST-A Commander

    Maj. Evan Ting, operations officer, G3, Division of Emergency Management, Pacific Ocean Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, recently was presented the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal by Honolulu District Commander Lt. Col. Douglas B. Guttormsen during ceremonies held at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
  • Honolulu District Awards $544.2 Million in FY11 Contracts in Hawaii, Pacific Region

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Honolulu District recently completed a successful Fiscal Year 2011 during which 547 contract actions were awarded totaling $544.2 million.

    More than thirty volunteers descended upon Kaha Garden at Kawainui Marsh City Park in Kailua for National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 24.
  • Corps of Engineers, City, Local Students Team Up to Analyze Ala Wai Watershed Water Quality in Makiki

    Honolulu District staff teamed up with the City and County of Honolulu Storm Water Quality Branch, State Department of Health’s Wastewater Branch and Clean Water Branch, Punahou School Mamiya Science Center, U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Hawaii Nature Center and more than 100 Anuenue School students Sept. 22 as part of Oahu’s annual World Water Monitoring Day activities in the Makiki watershed.
  • 565th EN DET Partners with RMI to Improve Majuro Infrastructure

    The Honolulu District-based 565th Engineer Detachment (Forward Engineer Support Team-Advance) recently returned from a week-long deployment to assist the Republic of the Marshall Islands government with prioritizing improvements to the infrastructure on the Majuro Atoll.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is holding a Public Information meeting on its environmental response activities at the Former Maui Bombing Target – Kanahena Point Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) located within the ‘Āhihi-Kīna‘u Natural Area Reserve.
  • Army Corps Awards Contract for New Helemano Unaccompanied Enlisted Personnel Housing Facility

    Sumo-Nan, LLC a Honolulu-based contractor was awarded a $28,024,553 firm-fixed-price contract on Sept. 1, 2011 that will provide for the design and construction of an unaccompanied enlisted personnel housing facility (barracks) for 140 personnel at Helemano Military Reservation, Oahu, Hawaii.
