Palau Compact Road was built in Babeldaob, the largest of Palau’s islands. It was designed and constructed under the terms of the Compact of Free Association (CFA) between the United States and the Republic of Palau.
The project was completed in 2007 at a cost of $149 million. The construction included a roadway length of 53 miles; construction of embankments; causeways and bridges; installation of drainage structures; relocation of power poles; and removal and disposal of World War II ordnance.
