Auasi Small Boat Harbor

The Auasi Small Boat Harbor (SBH) is located on the eastern shoreline of Tutuila Island, opposite the corresponding Aunu‘u SBH on Aunu‘u Island.  Auasi SBH was authorized under Section 107 of the River and Harbor Act of 1960, as amended. The Department of Port Administration, American Samoa Government is the project local sponsor. The project is in the operations and maintenance phase.

The harbor was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) in 1981.  Total project cost was $1,095,936 (Corps:  $955,213; U.S. Coast Guard:  $47,076; non-Federal:  $93,647).  The completed project consists of an entrance channel that is 360 feet long, 80 feet wide, and 10 feet deep; a turning basin that is 230 feet long, 100 feet wide, and 8 feet deep; a breakwater that is 125 feet long; an exterior revetment that is 165 feet long; an east jetty that is 100 feet long; a west jetty that is 450 feet long; a shoreline revetment 300 feet long; and aids to navigation.

Auasi SBH is one of two harbors which serve as navigation end points between the islands of Tutuila and Aunuu, American Samoa.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for maintaining the project structures and project depths in the entrance channel and turning basin area.
