The Kuli‘ou‘ou Stream Flood Control project is located on east O‘ahu and was completed in 1970 at a cost of $3,393,897 (Federal: $2,316,222; non-Federal: $1,077,675). The project was authorized under Section 205, Flood Control Act of 1948, as amended. The project consists of a concrete-lined trapezoidal channel.
Later developers expanded the residential area to above the existing Federal project, that included the construction of a debris basin and rectangular channel at the upstream end of the Federally constructed channel. The sponsor is the City and County of Honolulu and the State of Hawai‘i.
